Six months into his first term as President, Donald Trump has achieved almost nothing that he promised he’d do. His biggest accomplishments are choosing a Supreme Court justice, watching the dishonorable goons in the Senate rewrite the rules to ram through confirmation of a seat that should have been filled by President Obama, and getting strong-armed into signing a bill leveling sanctions against his patrons in Moscow.
Instead of taking an active interest in policy and governing, the President has been busy holding rallies, golfing, watching cable television, and getting extremely mad online.
He’s not going to be any happier when he sees next week’s Newsweek cover:
Add your name to millions demanding that Congress take action on the President’s crimes. IMPEACH DONALD TRUMP!
The article that accompanies this brutal cover is a blistering dissection of the President’s laziness and how his entire White House is in utter disarray – and underlining how our selfish president only puts effort into things that benefit himself:
During the campaign, Trump did work hard, because it was on his own behalf, the glory of rapturous crowds rebounding directly to him, not to some abstract institution of government.
“He’s a terribly self-indulgent individual,” says Robert Dallek, the noted presidential historian, who doesn’t think the weight of the presidency has “fully taken hold yet.” It may never. In his firing of FBI Director James Comey, his humiliation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, his casual disregard of ethics rules, Trump has made it clear that he sees the White House as little more than a branch office of his marketing business, the Trump Organization.
To this day, it’s hard to grapple with the fact that Donald Trump somehow lied and conned his way into the White House, and that millions of people still refuse to see the truth of just what kind of person they’ve placed in charge of one of the world’s great nations.
But this cover sums it up pretty nicely – though the President might not see it for a few days, since he just flew off a 17-day vacation.
