Donald Trump has been killing off his predecessor’s executive actions so fast that it is a wonder his pen has not caught fire. There is something gracious about presidents who do not criticize their predecessors. President George W. Bush never denounced President Barack Obama. Obama almost never said anything against Trump, even though Trump trashes 44 at every opportunity. Today, however, Obama is gearing up for one of 45’s most horrendous acts.
According to POLITICO, the newly-retired president said he would speak up, but only if Trump went down a certain disastrous track, killing off DACA for Dreamers.
‘Efforts to round up kids who have grown up here and for all practical purposes are American kids, and send them someplace else, when they love this country.’
If 45 announces he will abort Obama’s 2012 DACA initiative Tuesday, it would take effect in six months. This initiative gave undocumented immigrants’ foreign-born children two-year work permits on the condition that they have not committed any crimes.
Trump will likely feed his base some red Dreamer meat, even though just last Friday POLITICO reported he said:
‘We love the Dreamers … we think the Dreamers are terrific.’
Speaking before an audience of students last April, POLITICO reported that President Obama stated that his most important act was to “prepare the next generation.”
‘The single most important thing I can do is help in any way I can prepare the next generation of leadership to take up the baton and to take their own crack at changing the world.’
President Obama said in a January 18 news conference that he prepared a statement in the event Trump attacks DACA.
‘The notion that we would just arbitrarily or because of politics punish those kids, when they didn’t do anything wrong themselves, I think would be something that would merit me speaking out.’
Obama’s former communications director Dan Pfeiffer told POLITICO that Trump’s decision to stop the Dreamers’ protection would be “capricious.”
‘This is as cruel and capricious a public policy decision that any President has made in a very long time.’
A source close to Obama said deporting the children of immigrants would be “cruel.”
‘Back to a country they don’t know with a language they don’t speak? It’s cruel.’
