Kenneth Frazier, African-American CEO of major pharmaceutical company Merck, has resigned this morning from Trump’s American Manufacturing Council, as a direct response to President Trump’s remarks about “many sides” being to blame for violence over the weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Harvard Law grad and CEO Frazier said in a statement that, “Our country’s strength stems from its diversity and the contributions made by men and women of different faiths, races, sexual orientations and political beliefs. America’s leaders must honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy, which run counter to the American ideal that all people are created equal. As CEO of Merck, and as a matter of personal conscience, I feel a responsibility to take a stand against intolerance and extremism.”
Instead of realizing that he made a great mistake and is losing support for his failure to condemn white supremacists, President Trump instead decided to join them and attacked Frazier this morning. “Now that Ken Frazier of Merck Pharma has resigned from President’s Manufacturing Council, he will have more time to LOWER RIPOFF DRUG PRICES!” Trump posted.
Trump didn’t really try to hide this weekend that he knows these white supremacists are his people. This attack on Frazier seems to confirm it even more. Trump is willing to take the time to attack a man for standing up for his principles, rather than condemning instigators of violence who are actual Nazis.
