Some Republicans such Lindsey Graham (SC) and John McCain (AZ) have been critical of Trump since the start, but now, more Republicans are speaking out against the president—even ones who were very loyal to the GOP, even former Trump supporters, like Trey Gowdy (SC) and John Cornyn (TX). And now another, Texas Republican Bill Flores is also speaking up.
In an interview on a local CBS affiliate in central Texas, Flores chose not to tow party lines and defend the Trumps. “I do find issues with the meeting. It’s a meeting that should not have taken place,” he said. “I think he thought he was looking out for his father’s best interest.”
Flores didn’t stop there. He gave advice to the president that Trump would be wise to follow. “I’m going out on a limb here, but I would say that I think it would be in the president’s best interest if he removed all of his children from the White House,” Flores said. “Not only Donald Trump, but Ivanka and Jared Kushner.”
Trump’s nepotism is starting to come back to hurt him. With the number of Republicans who are no longer blindly supporting Trump growing every day, he is going to have to stop acting like he has a royal family. With the 2018 elections coming up, Republicans will be less and less complacent with Trump if it turns out that supporting him will be bad for their reelection campaigns.
Trump would be smart to take Flores’s advice before Kushner ends up in prison.
