There might just be another Trump administration staffer on the chopping block soon. After weeks of watching Trump staffers get fired or resign left and right, it appears that Donald Trump’s patience with his Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, couldn’t be worse and is growing more tense with every passing day.
According to a new report from Axios, Trump “has been growing increasingly frustrated with his Secretary of State.” Axios’ Mike Allen also made the suggestion that U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley could possibly step in for Tillerson should the relationship between the former Exxon CEO and the president continue to go south.
According to one source, Trump went as far as to publicly humiliate Tillerson after he got back from a meeting in Afghanistan. Trump reportedly stated, “Rex just doesn’t get it, he’s totally establishment in his thinking.” Axios’ Jonathan Swan also stated:
We’ve been hearing for weeks, from sources who’ve spoken to the president, that Trump is getting more and more fed up with Tillerson, who has still yet to staff his agency.”
And apparently, the frustration is being felt on both sides. Trump’s issues with Tillerson may have been aggravated recently, as Tillerson made a few surprising comments in an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. During the interview, Tillerson refused to take Trump’s side when speaking about the president’s weak, disappointing remarks about the Charlottesville terror attack.
When Wallace asked Tillerson about the “president’s values,” Tillerson simply said, “the president speaks for himself.” You can watch Tillerson distance himself from his boss in the interview below:
The Trump administration is certainly the most dysfunctional team we’ve ever witnessed, and it continues to get worse. If Trump can last beyond his first year, he may not have any of the people he started with.
